Welsh Harlequins are a beautiful duck breed that until recently were considered to be critically endangered. They have pulled back from the brink and are now under Watch status. A truly marvelous breed, welshies are excellent egg producers. They come in silver phase and gold phase. Silver phase is the only color accepted by the APA and I only have silver phase birds. Welshies are docile and friendly, not skittish such as other high producing breeds like runners and khaki campbells. These birds are excellent for homesteading, producing tons of eggs (more than most chicken breeds) and they have white down, making for a clean carcass if you choose to eat your extra birds. They are wonderful mothers and will happily hatch and raise ducklings for you each year. Ducklings can be sexed with 70% accuracy by the color of their bills at hatch. Hatching eggs will be available next spring.
